This Dream Freaked Me Out

So I have an unusual brain. At least I think it’s unusual but of course that is my brain thinking about it self so let’s jump off that circular train.

Anyway the point is that my brain serves up some disturbing images pretty frequently. Sometimes I kind of enjoy them but this dream that I had the other night was over the top.

In the dream I first notice this flaming corpse in front of me. I am in a desert with the vague outlines of pyramids in the background. Somehow I know that the flaming corpse is thousands of years old. I should say half of a corpse because its only the top half. I realize that it is not just on fire but it is being roasted, but its so dry that it is burning up rapidly.

Next to the flaming corpse is a man with hazy features. He is vaguely dressed in middle eastern desert cloths. Somehow I know that he intends to eat the flaming corpse. I look at him and give him my most ‘don’t do it’ stare. He reaches over while staring at me, not the corpse and plucks the lips off of it and pops them into his mouth. Somehow I can watch him chew while also tasting the ash and faint remnants of meat at the same time.

Thats the dream, short and not sweet. The image and feeling of it is burned into my brain in a way I have only seldom experienced from a dream.

My question is: why does a brain come up with images that we would never ascribe to as our conscious selves? It’s like there is more than one of us in there. Anyway if nothing else it made me think. Maybe that is the purpose or maybe it’s a mess of evolved matter that has its own agenda or is just partly insane…
