Self Fulfilling Stories We Tell Ourselves

I wonder how often we realize that, we the smartest and most gullible creatures on the planet, create our reality with the stories we tell ourselves. I hate to quote Batman here but:

Things We Are Not Doing:

• Thinking we are destroying the planet: We are not destroying the planet, we are impacting the current ecosystem and there have been many. The planet does not give a shit what we do on it, we must.
• Thinking some evil organization controls every thing: No party political or otherwise can destroying the human race. People have no authority that is not given to them by other people.
• Thinking we are going broke: We are not going broke. Monetary systems are merely a stand in for human work and products. A currency is as strong as the production of the nation backing it. If a currency fails it is because the nation failed.

Things We Are Doing

• Being intellectually lazy: There is plenty of good information to be had. More than any time in human history.
• Listening to our own negative stories: The only way things decline is when ethical people stop believing justice and fairness can win and we give up.
• Not believing in the goodness of most humans: Most humans that I have met are honest, fair and just. They try to do the right thing. If it were not so we would have all killed each other off long ago and societies would not exist.
• Assuming things are getting worse: First of all, look at statistical history of lifespan, economics, people killed in war…it is surprising. Food security, safety, longevity have all improved in the modern world.
• Overly trusting or under trusting our leaders: Leaders must be held to account. An active press is a must have and so are whistle blowers. Trust less press sources that are a money making operation or are strongly affiliated with a political ideology. Run from press that is based on any religion.

Bottomline

• Humans will continue.
• We make the world so the question is what kind of world do we want to live in?
• We must each do our small or large part to make the world better
