Ship Rock painting by Warren DeFerbrache

By Warren Deferbrache 2025

This painting depicts Ship Rock in New Mexico. Ship Rock is the caldera of an ancient volcano and one of my favorite natural wonders. It is near a town of the same name.

The ‘rock’ part of the painting is modeled in acrylic modeling past. The outline is true to the actual Ship Rock but the rock contours only approximate the actual rock. This is the first painting on which I have attempted to add some 3d conturing using this method. I had to work fast since acrylic modeling paste dries rapidly.

The painting is on canvas and painted using acrylic paint. I am very happy with the way it turned out.
