The Mystery of Existence: Where Does Matter Come From?

We see the vastness of the observable universe from our little spot in it. We invent and use ever improving instruments. These include the Axis X-ray telescope and the James Webb telescope, to name but a couple. We can now see objects and events that are incredibly far away both in space and time.

We also explore the tiny universe as we theorize and learn in the weird world of quantum physics.

This is all great and amazing. But lately I have been wondering, not how our universe started but why does it exist at all. In our universe great scientific minds have observed that matter can not be created or destroyed only transformed. But if it can not be created, where did the matter we are made of come from? Yes, yes the big bang started it all but where did that bang loaded with energy and matter come from? Where did all those pieces parts in that early soup get created?

Obviously somewhere (I use the term loosely) else exists. A place or state where the rules are different from those to which our universe strictly adheres. Our matter and energy have to have been ‘created’ in a place where ‘existence’ does not matter. Basically where anything can be ‘created’ including matter, energy, and the rules that govern them. Where something CAN come from nothing!

This concept makes me think about the fact that rules are made to be broken. As we uncover the ‘rules’ of our universe, we solve mysteries like dark matter and dark energy. Will there come a time when we can peak under the covers? Peak at where our matter was made? Can we break out into another reality someday? Can we exploit that knowledge? I think it is possible. Just another layer of the onion to peel back someday.
