I refurbished a 1930’s Fairbanks Doctor Scale

I bought the scale several years ago in Tennessee with the intention of fixing it up. Finally got around to it.

The next three pictures show the scale as I bought it. The top image and the last image below show it after refurbishment.

I completely disassembled the scale and stripped it using paint stripper and lots of sanding. I wanted to have it sand blasted, that would have been better but due to Covid 19 I didn’t want to have the human contact with the shop.

After painting I reassembled it and got the weigh function working accurately. I tightened up the holder for the height measurement function and cleaned up the chrome.

Before, pretty sad but all the pieces are present. The scale didn’t weigh correctly and the height measurement device (not shown) was loose.

Just a bunch of icky flakey black foam residue where (I assume) a rubber pad used to be. The pad was not original based on other Fairbanks scales of which I found pictures on the internet.
The paint was rough and very thick. Looked like it had been brushed on. Lots of tarnish on the chrome parts.
